Ciampino Airport, Rome’s second-largest airport, primarily serves low-cost carriers like Ryanair and is a popular entry point for travelers heading to the Italian capital. If you’re landing here, you have several convenient options to reach central Rome — including bus, train, taxi, or private transfer.
In this guide, you’ll find up-to-date information on routes, travel times, and prices for each type of transportation so you can choose the best and most cost-effective option for your needs and budget.
About Ciampino Airport
Ciampino Airport is the smaller of Rome’s two airports and rose to prominence in the early 2000s when Ryanair chose it as their base in the city. Its popularity among budget airlines quickly turned this small airport into a busy travel hub.
While Ciampino has added more services over the years — including a few cafés and newsstands — it still primarily caters to Ryanair flights, so don’t expect luxury amenities.
My Experience
I’ve flown into Ciampino many times. It’s a great option if you’re traveling to Rome from smaller airports across Italy and Europe. It’s especially convenient if you’re staying in the southern part of the city or flying into Rome as a stopover on your way to another destination.

How to Get from Ciampino Airport to Rome City Center by Bus
The easiest and most affordable way to get from Ciampino Airport to Rome is by bus.
Several companies operate direct bus routes from the airport:
1. Terravision Buses run directly between the airport and Termini Station. Tickets can be purchased at the bus entrance for €6.50 in cash or booked online in advance for the same price (recommended). Service is scheduled to align with flight arrivals between 08:15 AM and 12:15 AM.

Both companies stop right outside the arrivals terminal at Ciampino. From my experience, these are reliable and budget-friendly ways to get into Rome quickly. You’ll spot their designated parking bays as soon as you exit the airport. There’s luggage storage space onboard, and the trip to Termini Station is direct — no stops in between.
3. Other bus options (run by Cotral and Schiaffini) connect Ciampino Airport to Termini Station and to the Anagnina Metro stop. The bus to Termini runs from 5:30 AM to 10:50 PM and costs €3.90. The bus to Anagnina operates from 6:10 AM to 10:40 PM and costs €1.20. Once you arrive at either Termini or Anagnina, you can use Rome’s public buses or metro to reach your accommodation.

Taxis from Ciampino to Rome
Taking a taxi from Ciampino to Rome is simple and convenient. The airport is small, and taxis line up right outside the arrivals terminal in a designated area reserved for official taxis only. They’re white, clearly marked with the word “TAXI” on top.
Taxi fares to central Rome are regulated with a fixed price system. The current flat rate is €31, and there are clearly posted signs at the taxi rank showing the prices.
Current fixed fares from Ciampino Airport:
1. Ciampino Airport to inside the Aurelian Walls (Rome’s historic center) – €31
2. Ciampino Airport to Tiburtina Station – €36
3. Ciampino Airport to Stazione Ostiense – €31
You can check the official Rome taxi rates and a helpful fare map here.
Make sure to check the current fare, as taxi prices are updated periodically. Point to the official fare map and ask the driver if the flat rate applies to your destination.
Please note: The fixed-rate fares only apply to destinations within the so-called “Aurelian Walls,” which cover Rome’s historic city center. They do not apply to areas outside this zone. If your destination is outside the Aurelian Walls, taxi fares will be higher. We strongly recommend confirming the total fare with the driver before getting in the taxi to avoid any surprises.
Important: If you’re traveling with children, keep in mind that child car seats are not mandatory in Roman taxis and are generally not provided. If you’re traveling with a young child, it’s best to bring your own car seat. If that’s not possible, but you still want to ensure a safe ride, book a private car service in advance and request a child seat during the reservation process.
